Terry and Major

Terry McGlade, a retired veteran suffering from PTSD and seizures from an IED blast, begins the uncontrolled muscle spasms marking another one of his serious, advanced seizures. Something different happened this time though, something unexpected; another variable to this deadly equation.  Major was there. See, Major is no ordinary Pit Bull though, no- Major is a highly trained service animal. Knowing exactly what needed to be done, precisely what was required of him, Major promptly dog Terry’s iPhone from his pocket, and… dialed 911! By pawing at the phone, set to automatically contact EMS, Major managed to call 911 a total of nine times, alerting emergency responders in time to save his seizing owner. Major just happened to be a rescue.

Shana’s Story

An elderly couple rescue a sick half- wolf pup named Shana from a cruel breeder; doubts were high the dog would survive. But these two spend their days caring for sick and injured animals the world has forgotten. Not only did Shana survive, she would grow and flourish, one day to repay the elderly couple a thousand fold. When a severe blizzard hit six years later, the elderly couple found themselves trapped within their wooded sanctuary. As the storm raged and power began to fail, temperatures dropped to deadly lows; the couple would easily freeze to death in a matter of hours. Had it not been for Shana. The wolf- dog quickly burrowed through impacted snow and underneath fallen debris, creating a trench she used to drag the two back to safety. When rescue workers finally arrived, they were astounded; none had seen anything like it. Very few animals would have been able to do this. If the couple hadn’t rescued Shana all of those years ago, they wouldn’t be here today.

Sgt. Stubby

The year is 1917; WW1 Rages. Amidst the chaos, a lone Bulldog wanders the grounds at Yale University, eventually taken in by local trainees. Pets weren’t allowed at camp with the human soldiers, so ‘Stubby’, as he had been named, had to be kept a secret. When it came time to ship out, Stubby was again smuggled on board. When Stubby finally emerged, the secret was broken and commanding officer ‘less than pleased’. Stubby would have to go; this couldn’t be permitted. Until Stubby offered the CO a very well trained salute, that is. Then, there was no question. Not only did Stubby save his entire platoon from a poison gas attack in the dead of night, he went on to become ‘Sgt. Stubby’,  tracking enemy spies and eventually outranking his owner; the first dog in history to achieve such an accomplishment. Countless human soldiers would have lost their lives had Stubby not been rescued on the grounds of Yale, all those years ago. In Conclusion The fact is, dogs are extremely intelligent animals, capable of feats no human could ever dream of! Search and Rescue dogs are often trained to both trail a scent in the air and track via ground from over a mile away, and sometimes buried deep under snow. Bloodhounds can follow a scent as it washes alongside riverbanks, something all but unheard of. Very few animals on our planet can rival these feats, and none as intelligent, not even humans.
